KVS Interview Preparation: SUGGESTED CLASS WISE LIBRARY ACTIVITIES

Class – VI-VIII

	Book Care True /False	Students will be able to develop creativity and Caring of Books.	Some Good and Bad statements will be written at the bottom of the half-page. Students will cut these statements and pest on the True side or False side. Example -
	Checkout Procedure for Books	Student will be able to know the steps of checkout procedure of the books in library	The checkout procedure of the book will be written on the page in an unarranged manner then the student will arrange the steps in sequence. Example-
	Slogan Writing Competition	Thinking and Creativity of writing will be developed.	Related stationery material will be provided to students like chart paper, colour pens, etc. to write Slogans on different themes/topics. Winner should be awarded.
	Know the Parts of the Book	Students will be able to know the parts of the books	An outlined Performa will be given to the students they will identify the part of the book and write the title, name of author, publisher, price, and illustrator at the proper place. They will design the cover of the book. Example-
	Building the story Pyramid	Step by step development of making a story.	Small pictorial books will be given to the students after reading that they will make a pyramid of the story charts with the main character at the top then add a word to each line below it. Each of the students is given a book, like a small mostly pictorial in nature along with some text. The student reads it and later is given a worksheet to describe the book in the form of a pyramid. Line 1 — one word, stating the name of the main character Line 2 — two words, describing the main character Line 3 — three words, describing the setting Line 4 — four words, stating the problem Line 5 — five words, describing one event Line 6 — six words, describing a second event Line 7 — seven words, describing the third event Line 8 — eight words, stating the solution to the problem for example (Ramayana) Ram Honest, Obedient Ayodhya, Successor, Old Father Stepmother, Ambition, Brother, Exile Sita, Kidnap, Hanuman, Monkey-Army, Bridge War, Vibhishan, Fire in Lanka, Medicine(Sanjeevani), Ten Heads Ravana, Jatayu Victory, Truth, Airplane, Back to home, Peace, Ram Rajya, Brothers united

	Know your India	Children will be able to know about India like the Capital of States, Indian Rivers, Mountains, Different Languages and Dances, Crops, etc. Research attitudes will be developed.	Students will ask to gather information about all the states from books, encyclopedia, internet, atlas, etc and the student will write this information in his/her notebook.
	Improve your General Knowledge	Brain Treasure.	Small Books/ Pictorial Books of general knowledge, newspaper, yearbook, etc will be given to the students and ask them to learn/write a given topic like Capital of States, Name of Rivers, Name of Currencies, Name of Historical Monuments, etc. then they will discuss these topics in Library.
13. 1	Story from picture	1. Critical thinking 2. Vocabulary building 3. Writing skills .	One or two pictures of the scene will be provided to the students and will ask them to make their own stories based on given pictures.
	Find the word of the day	Enhancement of vocabulary.	Students will note down the difficult words in their notebook from the magazines / Books which will be provided by the Library in their period
15. 1	Know the Dictionary	1. Enhancement of vocabulary 2. Student will be able to know the method of use of the dictionary	Class will be divided into 5 or 6 groups then Dictionaries will be provided to the groups. A word will be given to all groups and ask them to find it in the dictionary quickly. The group which takes less time to find this word will be the winner.
	Book Talk	Thinking and confidence will improve	The book talk will be organized in the Library period in which the students will discuss the book read by them. They will talk about the title, kind of book, author, brief outline of the story, and different views of the story.
17. 1	Vote your favourite Character	Students will be able to know the qualities of his/her favorite character	2 or 3 pictures of favorite characters of the students will be shown to the children and ask them to describe the character.
18. 1	Glad Books, Sad Books	Caring of the library books/ personal books	The books which are properly maintained by the students are glad books and the books which are not in a proper condition are sad books. This discrimination can be made aware to the student which will help them to make proper use of the books.
19. 1	Scrap Document	Documentation and Research attitude will be develop	Topics will be given to the students on the particular theme according to their class. Students can collect articles from different documents and paste them in the scrapbook.

21.	Collect New Words	1. Vocabulary enhance 2. Handwriting will improve	Have each student keep a notebook of new words. This is a nice activity to do daily or a few times a week. It is also good for handwriting practice. Each day, each student finds a word in the dictionary that he does not know. He then writes the word, the definition, and an original sentence using the word in his notebook. An illustration would make a nice addition. Have students share their words with at least one other person.
22.	Play Speed Word Search	Vocabulary enhance	Give each student or pair of students a dictionary. When you call out a word, the student(s) must find the word as quickly as possible. The first person to call out the correct page number wins the round. This would be a good one to do in teams; everyone has his or her dictionary, but the winner wins a point for the whole team rather than individually
23.	Library Scavenger Hunt	Students will be able to know about the available books in the Library. Students will be motivated to read books.	A format will be given to the students in which they will write the title of different types of books like- Science Book, Fairy tale books, Book about Clock, Space, Ocean, Mountain, Stars, Adventure, Inventions, Games, Environment. Library Catalogue may be used for this purpose.
24.	My Reading List/wish List	Students will be motivated to read more books as per his/ her choice. She/he can maintain the record of favourite books.	A format will be given to the students in which they will write the title of such books which they have read or want to read
25.	40 Book Challenge	Students will be able to classify the books into different subjects like Fiction Book, Non- fiction books, Science Fiction Book, Adventure Book, Poetry, etc. Students will be motivated to read books.	A format will be given to the students in which they will write the title of different types of books like Fiction Book, Non- fiction book, Science Fiction Book, Adventure Book, Poetry, etc. Students can search the books from the catalog of the Library.
26.	Best Reader Award / Best Class Library Award	Students will be motivated to use the library properly.	Librarians will maintain the record of the utilization of the library by the students with the help of e-granthalaya software. This award should be given to the students who qualitatively read and utilized books and libraries regularly.
27.	Celebrations/ Exhibitions of Important Days, Weeks, Birth Day of famous personalities	Students will be able to enhance their knowledge about celebrated Days, Weeks, and famous personalities. She/ He will motivate to read.	Celebrations and Exhibitions of the Important days, Weeks, BirthDays of famous personalities will be conducted in the library. Related magazines/ books will be displayed on these occasions. All the students will participate in this program.

Class will be divided into 4 or 5 groups then the quiz will be conducted based on the given topic. Quiz may be prepared by the Librarian/ student through quizzes app, print form, or verbal.
2.	Adopt a shelf	The student will be able to learn the Classification of books/arrangement of books. Belongingness towards Library will be developed	Group of students will be allotted a shelf and they will arrange the bookshelf and will make a note of books from the shelves.
3.	News and Views	The student will be able to improve their Analytical thinking and develop their own views on the topic.	students will allot a topic from Current affairs. They will read this topic from newspapers, magazines, etc. and analyze this topic from different part of views. Then present it in Library period.
4.	G. K. Hunt	General Knowledge and Research attitudes of the student will be developed.	A section will be developed in the Library where small books of general knowledge, newspaper clippings, and Magazine clippings will be kept. Students will make notes on the given topic then they will discuss in the Library period. Suggested Topics- Environment, Science and Technology, Sports, Health, Books, E-Resources, and Current Affairs etc.
5.	Know the Encyclopaedia	The student will be able to know the steps of the use of the encyclopedia. Research attitude of the student will be developed.	The class will be divided into 4 or 5 groups and different types of the encyclopedia will be given to the group so that they will come to know the arrangement of pieces of information – general and subject-specific in encyclopedia.
6.	Future Writer	Writing skills, Literary skills, and Creative skills will be developed.	Theme or events/topics as per the age group will be given to the students on which they can write their idea. A lecture may be arranged on writing skills. The writer may be invited in this regard. Many children magazines like Champak, Nandan, Bal Hans, Twinkle, Magic Pot, etc invite the poem, story, riddles etc form the Children. Students will be motivated to write for these periodicals.
7.	Book jacket Designing	Creativity, Art skills, and belongingness towards Books will be developed.	Children can make a book cover of their book or Library book. Related material will be provided by the Librarian.
8.	Know the Literary Award	Interest in Literature will develop and students will be motivated to write.	An assignment will be given to the students in which they will search and collect the details about Literary awards for the last 5 years. Awards- Specsavers National Book Awards, Nobel Prize in Literature, Booker Prize, Pulitzer Prize, Costa Book Awards, Neustadt International Prize for Literature, Hugo Award, Guardian First Book Award, Bailey's Women's Prize for Fiction, Sahitya Akademi, Gyanpeeth Award (Jnanpith Award), Sahitya Academy Fellowship, Sahitya Academy Award, Vyas Samman, The Hindu Literary Prize, Yuva Puraskar, Saraswati Samman, Rabindra Puraskar, Kabeer Samman, etc.
9.	Dictionary Team Challenge Activity	Students will be able to know the steps to use the dictionary. Vocabulary Enhance	The class will be divided into 4-5 teams. The members of each team will take turns looking up the following words in their dictionary. 2. Once the first team member finds the first word, he or she will write down the page number and pass the list on to the next team member, who will do the same thing. 3. The first team to complete their list WINS!
10.	Know your guide Words	Students will be able to know the steps to use the dictionary. Vocabulary Enhance	Students will find the given words in their dictionary. They will write the guide words they find at the top of the page, in the blanks.
11.	Dictionary Pronunciation	Students will be able to know the correct pronunciation of the word.	Students will check the correct pronunciation of the given word from an online dictionary. Ex- 1. What is the sound of the 1st E in colleague? 2. Is the A in affluent long or short?
12.	Dictionary Definition Cut and Paste & Paste	Students will be able to know the meaning and its uses of different words.	A list of entry words will be given to the students. The meaning/ definition of the entry words will be provided at the bottom of the page. They will Cut off the bottom half of the page at the dotted line. Paste each definition beside the proper entry word. The dictionary of their choice may be used for these definitions Just be aware that the definitions may vary slightly.

Festivals like- Holi, Deepawali, Pongal, Losar, Mahashivratri, Estar, Rath Yatra, Eid-ul- Fitr, Raksha Bandhan, Jnamasthmi, Nowruz, Muharram, Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam, Durga Puja, Navratri, Dussehra, Gurupurab, Hornbill Festival, Semana Santa- Guatemala, Songkran Festival-Thailand, Obon Festival-Japan, Tsechus Festival Bhutan, Perahera Festival- Srilanka
3.	Book Review	Writing skills and book analysis skills will be developed.	Book review format will be given to the students by the Librarian and will ask to write a review of a book that the student has read. The Book review format should contain the information like - Author of the book, Publisher of the Book, Price, ISBN, About the book in minimum 15 lines and moral of the book in maximum 4 lines, etc.
4.	Quiz Competition	General Knowledge of the student will be developed.	A theme / identified topic will be given to the students for the preparation of the quiz. The class will be divided into 4 or 5 groups then the quiz will be conducted based on the given topic. Quiz may be prepared by the Librarian/ student through quizzes app, print form, or verbal.
5.	Online Quiz	Brain mapping, thinking.	Questionnaire prepared by the librarian on quizzes app, Google form, print form, or verbal.
6.	World Currency	Students will be able to know about the currencies of different countries.	Children will ask to collect the details of the currencies from G.K. Books, References, and the Internet and can make the list in the notebook or chart paper. They can also take pictures from the Internet and paste it.
7.	Motivational Speeches	Students will inspire them to do good things in their life.	Different famous speeches may be shown to the students through the projector
8.	Biographies of International Authors	Student will motivate to read as per their choice	Biographies of International Authors will be discussed through PPT. Such PPT will be made by the Librarian, the books written by these authors will also be discussed.
9.	Bibliographies of References (Streamwise)	Students come to know about the important references of their subjects.	Students will ask to make a list of references along with their bibliographic details (Title, Author, Publisher, and Price, etc.) according to their stream.
10.	Online Quiz	Brain mapping, thinking.	Questionnaire prepared by the librarian quizzes app, print form, or verbal.
11.	Career Oriented Poster (Streamwise)	Students come to know about their Career Options	Students will ask to make the posters of the career options of a particular stream after 12th. Like- Career in Medical, Non- Medical, NDA, Integrated B Ed, Integrated LLB, Railway, Other Forces, Other Govt Jobs
12.	Write a letter to your favourite Author		Students will ask to write a letter to their favorite author. The author may be a fiction writer or a non-fiction writer.
13.	Know Open Educational Resources	Student will be able to use Open Educational Resources	A PPT will be shown to the students regarding OER. Students come to know about these e-resources which are freely available on the internet. 14.	Community Resources	Students will be able to know about different fields of career. They come to know the real situation of the field which is selected by the student.	Community resources are human, institutional and material resources that are available in the community where the school is located. Parents who are working in different professions such as lawyers, engineers, doctors, scientists, media persons, artists, counselors, psychologists, bank officers, postmasters, social workers etc are invited into the Library. Students are allowed to freely interact with them. Discussions are held on their professions and their responsibilities Institutional resources such as museums, galleries, factories, farms, offices, etc are also visited by the students. The Librarian may collect the contact details of the community resources and information regarding their availability for future use
